We've never run a fundraising campaign in an economic crisis like this.
Common Dreams Home Page

Friend,

Common Dreams was launched in 1997 based on a bold idea: instead of taking ads or charging a subscription fee, we would fund a nonprofit, progressive news organization by pooling together many small donations from our readers.

Some said we were crazy, that we'd never survive. And yet nearly 25 years later, we're still here.

But we've never run a fundraising campaign in an economic crisis like this.

More than 26 million Americans have filed for unemployment in the past five weeks. The Congressional Budget Office is now projecting that unemployment will reach a staggering 16 percent—by far the highest since the Great Depression. Even some nonprofit organizations are starting to lay off workers.

Here's what we DO know:

  1. We have more readers today than ever before, with traffic to our website skyrocketing.
  2. Our work is more important than ever, with an unhinged pathological liar in the White House and the world facing an unprecedented crisis.
  3. We will NOT, under any circumstances, compromise our principles by accepting corporate advertising or by putting up a paywall to block access to our journalism.
  4. The key to making this model work remains the same: You, our readers.

To those of you who can't afford to donate, we understand. But if you can, and you're one of the millions relying on Common Dreams to help see you through this crisis, we need you now. We have just a few days left in our Spring Campaign, and we're counting on you.

Will you make a donation to help us reach our Spring Campaign goal of $60,000 today? We simply cannot provide the journalism you count on without your support.

DONATE NOW

With thanks,

Aaron Kaufman
