Did you watch the National Association of Black Journalists' annual convention the other day? I was beside myself as I witnessed Donald Trump, when asked about Vice President Kamala Harris, say, "Is she Indian or is she Black?" and then falsely claim that she "happened to turn Black" a few years ago. As a Black and Iranian American woman, I've had my race questioned one too many times before, and let me tell you, it's incredibly insulting and demeaning. I am proud of who I am, and to see a former president speaking like this to educated women of color about our vice president was just another low in Donald Trump's playbook.

Trump's comments are a direct attack on me and the very idea of America. They're a blatant attempt to demoralize and belittle women and people of color in our society. His vision of America is dystopian—a country full of divisiveness and hate, where everything is zero sum, where we're forced to choose one side, one identity, and then fight each other.

We do not want Trump's America. We will not accept Trump's America.

But 81 days from today, this could be our reality—if we do not do everything we possibly can to stop Trump.

The fact is that while there's incredible excitement and momentum for Vice President Harris's candidacy, this election is nail-bitingly close in the battleground states that will determine the outcome.¹

We need to fight to get every single voter to the polls who believes in a better future—a future with affordable health care, quality education, and economic justice for all.
