Voting rights are under attack as we speak. By signing this petition, you're supporting the landmark Voting Rights Act of 1965 AND you're advocating for a future where all of us have equal access to the ballot box. [[link removed]]
Each year in August, I write to you around the anniversary of the Voting Rights Act and ask you to join me to protect and expand the legacy of civil rights leaders like John Lewis, who risked their lives to ensure all of us have the fundamental right to vote.
Unfortunately, the fight for access to the ballot box is not over yet.
There’s been a rise in voter suppression laws that make it harder for Americans to vote by limiting voting hours, unfairly purging voter rolls, and implementing outdated voter ID laws.
These initiatives are designed to keep people of color, the elderly, students, Indigenous Americans, and people with disabilities from exercising the fundamental right to vote.
Nearly 60 years later, our rights are still under attack – but we’re not giving up.
