This spring, DSHS, in partnership with the Health Care Authority and the Department of Health, sponsored the Aging and Longevity Summit, which brought together state leaders and advocates to kick off the next phase of aging and longevity planning for Washington State.
The 2024 Summit focused on educating participants about the shifts in the state’s older adult population and brainstorming ideas to re-frame our approach to aging with special emphasis on:
- Fostering a longevity-focused economy.
- Social determinants of health that impact longevity across the life course.
- Disrupting ageism and re-framing how we communicate about older adults.
- Innovating care in the long-term service & support sector
- Building an Age-Friendly Washington
- Committing to collaborative change across all sectors (transportation, finance, housing, long-term care)
The Aging Summit Discussion Guide & Toolkit was created as an opportunity for you to engage with this information and host a conversation, as well.
Each module contains a link to Summit recordings by featured presenters. Simply click on the link, forward to the time stamp indicated, and view a short presentation. Following each presentation, lead a discussion using the questions provided on the guide.
Collaboration is key to ensuring that plans for future aging and longevity initiatives support all Washingtonians. We hope that this guide will help you, your community, or your organization identify some next steps you can take to help older adults and people with disabilities thrive.
