They started by overturning Roe v. Wade.
Then, 21 states restricted or banned abortion.
Next, 167 Congressional Republicans signed on to a federal ban on abortion without exceptions.
Now, anti-choice extremists are coming after IVF and contraception.
In February, the Alabama Supreme Court almost banned IVF procedures and put women, their doctors, and IVF clinics at risk of criminal prosecution.
And yet, when Washington Republicans had the opportunity to protect IVF at the national level, they rejected it. Instead, they attempted to ban funding for doctors, clinics and insurers that provide IVF services to veterans and service members.
This issue is deeply personal to me: I had several miscarriages, but I was fortunate enough to have my two beautiful children thanks to IVF treatment.
What keeps me up at night is knowing that the Alabama decision is not an isolated incident. It’s the tip of the iceberg.
That’s why we need to pass the Access to Family Building Act, which I co-sponsored, to establish a legal right to IVF and similar treatments. If we don’t act, women will continue to be at the mercy of extreme courts and politicians in Washington.
A woman’s reproductive and health care choices belong between her and her doctor — not in a state Supreme Court, not in the U.S. Supreme Court, and not in Congress.
If you’re as outraged as I am, consider making a contribution before you click out of this email. Your support allows me to fight for reproductive rights in Congress and stand up to the extremists who want to take them away.
Thank you for reading.
