Friend – Every student, including young people of all races, backgrounds, sexual orientations, and genders, deserves a great education that prepares them for a bright future. Unfortunately, a handful of extreme groups and politicians do not believe that our schools should serve all young people. They've launched a nationwide effort to systematically exclude certain students, whitewash history, and censor curriculum – all while pitting parents and communities against each other. This may sound familiar to you. Across California, some school districts have been or are becoming increasingly hostile towards Black, Brown, Indigenous, disabled, and LGBTQ+ students. Now more than ever, we must join together and fight for students' freedom to learn and freedom to be themselves at school.
Our students deserve the very best. Let's make sure they have access to books, curriculum, and policies that support all young people – including Black, Brown, Indigenous, disabled, and LGBTQ+ students. Will you join the 'Free to Learn, Free to Be' Campaign by joining us for the launch of our toolkit? We will go over the specific policies that may be harming students in your school district, the laws that protect students and inclusive instruction in California, and what you can do to make sure your school supports all students. Protect the freedom to learn! Ana Graciela Najera Mendoza Jennifer Chou |
