The Basis of American Democracy
The most important outcome of any election is not who wins or loses, but that votes are counted accurately, and the candidate chosen by the voters is elected. As Campaign Legal Center (CLC) President Trevor Potter wrote recently, the basis of American democracy is that we pick our leaders. Politicians don’t decide the results of elections, voters do.
This election season, CLC remains committed to ensuring safe and secure elections for all. Across each of our four key issue areas, CLC continues its mission to advance democracy through law at the federal, state and local levels.
We ensure that voters know who is spending money to influence their vote. We support states as they pass and implement legislation to protect election officials and poll workers. We hold elected officials accountable for unethical and unlawful behavior. And we fight for fair voting maps and systems that give every voter an equal opportunity to participate in the political process.
At the end of the day, it takes all of us to make sure democracy is delivered for the American people.
