Jack, we like that Daily Kos is a small, independent news outlet and activism hub. It means we're not beholden to the personal agenda of a billionaire backer or the interests of big corporate sponsors. It keeps us accountable to you, our readers.

Our biggest source of income is donations of just a few bucks at a time from readers like you—and when I say a few bucks, I mean it. Our average donation is just $9.44! These small donations add up, though, making up more than 60 percent of our revenue. That means we can really only launch a major new campaign, like recruiting 100,000 volunteers to help Get Out The Vote this fall, with your support. We literally can't do this without you.

Daily Kos has been hit by a double whammy this year: Ad revenue has long been in decline across the news business and, on top of that, grassroots donations slipped too. It puts real pressure on us heading into one of the most important elections of our lifetimes. We're still dedicated to Getting Out The Vote this fall, though.

It's too important to sit on the sidelines in this election. That's why I'm asking you to please donate $5 to help offset the cost of Daily Kos' GOTV campaign and help us recruit 100,000 volunteers this fall.
