At [AFSP]([link removed]), our mission is to save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide.

As we enjoy the remaining weeks of the summer, we also look ahead to September, which is National Suicide Prevention Week (although we recognize this awareness week all month long). It’s important that we keep our mental health in mind every month, and that we do everything we can to support our friends, family members, neighbors, classmates and colleagues by knowing the [warning signs]([link removed]) for suicide and how to have a caring, direct [conversation]([link removed]) if we’re concerned about someone. It’s just as important that we notice the warning signs in ourselves and feel comfortable reaching out for help if we need it.

There are other ways, too, that we can shine a light on suicide and help create a culture that’s smart about mental health. One way is by joining one of AFSP’s [Out of the Darkness Community Walks]([link removed]), taking place throughout the country.

That’s why this September and beyond, we’re inviting you to literally or symbolically #WalkWithUs.

For National Suicide Prevention Month, we’re encouraging you and all our followers to join a Community Walk in your area, and to help spread the word to others – on social media, in your neighborhood, and with all those you are in contact with. You can also let your wallet do your walking and [donate directly to AFSP]([link removed]).

Funds raised by the Out of the Darkness Walks make possible efforts including suicide prevention research; advocacy; support and education programs; and other initiatives that make a tremendous impact in communities everywhere. When you walk with us –– or [donate directly to AFSP]([link removed]) –– you’ll be sending the message throughout your community that suicide is something that affects us all, and that together, we can all make a difference.

We would also like you to save the date for virtual events throughout the month of September, including:

- Elevating Voices for Long-Lasting Change: Promoting Equity in Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Outreach — AFSP Vice President for Health Equity and Engagement Victor (Vic) Armstrong, MSW, moderates a discussion with three leading CEOs about the importance of equity in the fields of mental health and suicide prevention.

- 4pm ET, Wednesday, September 4 on Facebook and YouTube Live

- Three Psychiatrists on a (Virtual) Couch: Therapy, Authenticity, and Vulnerability — AFSP Chief Medical Officer Dr. Christine Yu Moutier moderates a special Instagram Live conversation on the role therapists play in normalizing mental health care, emulating authenticity and vulnerability, and their experience both giving and receiving therapy themselves, featuring Dr. Jessi Gold and Kali Hobson, MD.

- 6pm ET, Tuesday, September 24 on Instagram Live

- Audacy’s I’m Listening broadcast, encouraging those experiencing mental health challenges to know they are not alone, will feature AFSP Chief Medical Officer Dr. Christine Yu Moutier and other guests (to precede the [We Can Survive]([link removed]) concert benefiting AFSP featuring Justin Timberlake, New Kids on the Block, Tate McRae and Khalid on September 28)

- 7-9 pm local time, Wednesday, September 25 – airing across Audacy’s radio stations

More virtual events will be added, so keep checking [AFSP’s calendar]([link removed]) as we near September for more details!

Throughout the month, we’ll also be providing social media graphics and messaging to help connect people to the Walks, sharing articles from AFSP’s Real Stories blog that illustrate the profound impact the Walks have on individuals and their loved ones; and hosting virtual events that highlight important conversations about suicide and suicide prevention.

We can all be a part of the movement to prevent suicide and deliver caring support for those affected by this leading cause of death. So #WalkWithUs this September, [DONATE]([link removed]) to support the cause, and take a step in the right direction: towards HOPE.
