In 2024, J Street has truly emerged as the mainstream voice on Israel in the American Jewish community and in the Democratic Party. Our pro-Israel, pro-peace, pro-democracy voice is being heard more loudly than ever, rising above the extremes on the right and the left.
So-called “pro-Israel” detractors have spent years spinning a story – or rather, a web of lies – about J Street. They have tried to brand us as nothing more than a “fringe” group bent on berating Israel. They have smeared our name in the media. They would still have Jewish Americans and Congress believe that our positions are light years from the political center.
Their story – and the numbers – just don’t add up.
What the numbers do tell us is that J Street has become the mainstream Democratic voice on our issue. Here are just a few that prove it:
- With 153 endorsees in Congress, J Street’s pro-Israel, pro-peace, pro-democracy “caucus” is larger than ever.
- In addition to Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, our endorsees now constitute more than 60% of Democrats in the House and Senate.
- This was bolstered by an unprecedented number of representatives and senators actively seeking our endorsement for the first time. We've welcomed 19 new incumbent endorsees this cycle.
- We’re also working overtime to win pro-democracy majorities in the House and Senate, endorsing 24 House and Senate challengers.
- This includes proudly supporting J Street champion Colin Allred, who is working to defeat Ted Cruz in Texas.
These endorsements are all the more impressive because – unlike other “pro-Israel” groups to our right – we don’t endorse candidates without their consent to build our numbers (and we aren’t raising millions of dollars for anti-democratic insurrectionists). We truly represent the majority voice at the heart of the party.
This distinction is important as it marks a tectonic shift away from the outdated pro-Israel playbook that insisted on “no daylight” between the US and Israeli governments – an approach which has failed everyone in the most heartbreaking and devastating way possible. It is clear that this approach has made Israel and its people that we hold so dear less safe.
In its place, we are building a truly pro-Israel vision, one that champions a future of peace, safety and freedom for all – Israelis and Palestinians alike.
