So many of you have been part of our advocacy work and we wanted to provide a quick update on the DACA front. A group of state attorneys general is trying to overturn a big victory that we just won: the Biden administration's new policy that expands access to quality, affordable health care through the Affordable Care Act (ACA) to DACA recipients. It is cruel and not surprising.

Here are four things to know:

1. This is the same group of actors who want to end DACA altogether, despite all of the incontrovertible evidence that DACA changes lives and communities for the better. 
2. Access to quality health care saves lives and strengthens entire communities. Immigrants of all different statuses pay taxes which help make government programs like the ACA possible. It's callous and cruel and irresponsible that elected officials are wasting state resources to make people's lives worse. 
3. Despite this lawsuit, unless a judge issues an order, DACA recipients will still become eligible for subsidized health insurance on November 1, 2024. 
4. Winning access to the ACA for DACA recipients did not happen on its own. It was a hard-fought victory from the immigrants' and health rights movements.

We'll keep you updated as soon as we know more. In the meantime, know that we will continue to show up and fight for access to health care for all, regardless of status.
