As hurricanes and flash floods become more frequent, small islands in the Caribbean are being disproportionately impacted. In recent years, Mercy Corps has been on the frontlines preparing for — and responding to — major hurricanes across the Caribbean. Our teams and partners have helped people from Haiti to the Bahamas to Puerto Rico survive, recover, and build back stronger for the future. One way Mercy Corps achieves this is by creating Resilience Hubs. This critical infrastructure will ensure that, when disaster strikes, families have access to basic necessities, medications are kept refrigerated, and life-saving supplies reach those who desperately need them. Currently, Mercy Corps is ready and well-positioned to respond if a major hurricane hits Puerto Rico and Haiti this hurricane season, with 20 resilience hubs prepared in Puerto Rico standing by to respond to any disaster and support over 100,000 individuals in vulnerable communities. The generosity of our global community is critical to funding our emergency preparedness efforts to ensure that families can withstand and recover from the hurricane season. But there is still so much more work to do. Learn how many storms are forecasted for the Atlantic hurricane season and how Mercy Corps is helping to prepare. Thank you, The Mercy Corps team |
