Public Safety
I break these issues into several categories. How we deal with crime is only one facet of what you should focus on; additionally, how we respect our law enforcement officers and how we deal with those who commit crimes are interwoven, creating chaos in America.
Street Crime
Most cities have a rise in serious crime. Reports show, however, that minor crimes have declined. Looking past that statistic, the arrest may be down for several reasons. One is that the judicial system believes courts will be reluctant to punish criminals other than a mild reprimand. Another is that officers are convinced that prosecutors or judges will be too lenient. Stories abound about officers in Baltimore ignoring calls to certain parts of that city. Murder and carjacking are clearly rising, and those are statistics that can’t be ignored.
Vice President Harris has contributed to organizations specializing in posting bail money to put them back on the streets.
Rioting and Looting
It is regrettable that those in power the last few years do not consider the problems this creates. When anyone loots or riots, it comes at an expense. Often, the taxpayers suffer, but just as often, it is private businesses. When riots occurred in Richmond several years ago, they burnt up a fire engine that had to be replaced. When public buildings were defaced, taxpayers had to bear the expense. The same is true for the private businesses that were damaged. Most of those in Richmond were small businesses that never recovered.
Liberal Governors, such as Tim Walz explained away those burnt-out businesses. He said the riots were ‘mostly peaceful’ and when President Trump offered to assist the police, he declined that help.
When California passed laws to make stealing under $1,000 a misdemeanor, that was the green light to shoplift $999 worth of merchandise. That, in turn, led to gangs ransacking stores and now has spread across the country. Stores have had to increase prices or close up shop.
Kamala Harris was a big proponent of the passage of this legislation and its wording on the ballot.
Defunding of Police
This is the root cause of much turmoil and the cause of the lack of respect for our officers. Some communities simply did so by not funding them properly, resulting in high turnover. Other politicians have actively campaigned to defund their police departments.
Vice President Harris and Governor Walz are in this category. They deny it now, but they were, at one-point, vocal proponents, not understanding the need for safe streets.
Justice Equally Applied
If we have learned anything in the sixteen years, we need a justice system that is truly fair and just. It went off the wheels when Eric Holder was Attorney General, and under his oversight, ‘Fast and Furious’ occurred. Legitimate gun dealers were being vilified at the same time, saying agents were selling guns to criminals. This was followed by Holder’s replacement declining to charge Hillary Clinton for mishandling classified material.
Biden’s Attorney General Merrick Garland, not to be outdone, chose to do the exact opposite with Donald Trump for the same offense as Clinton. Likewise, he ignored Biden's indiscretion, again on the same issues.
Where rioting has mostly been swept under the rug, only on January 6th has the FBI used every means available to prosecute every grandmother involved.
