Friend,
They called it Obamamania, and it was
everywhere.
When Barack Obama burst onto the scene in 2008, his contrast to
Hillary Clinton was remarkable.
He opposed the Iraq War. He supported a
public option to open up healthcare for tens of millions of Americans.
He called for sweeping investments in working families, and he called
for climate policies that no other Democrat would talk
about.
Millions believed
him. But it was all a
lie.
The Obama
administration was not the much-needed march towards a better future,
not even remotely. In nearly every meaningful way, Obama made the
future we are fighting for harder to
achieve.
Obama put kids in cages before Trump
did, and earned the nickname
“Deporter In Chief” for his cruel immigration
policies.
Obama killed the public
option in the Affordable Care
Act in an act of total surrender to Big Insurance. He repeatedly
bailed out greedy corporate executives but never the American
worker.
Worst of all,
this so-called anti-war president decimated our movement for peace.
Obama took us from two wars to SEVEN, expanded mass
surveillance, and viciously persecuted
whistleblowers.
We
didn’t know much about Obama going into his presidency, we had to
learn all this the hard way.
But we know a LOT more about Kamala Harris.
From her record as a prosecutor facilitating
mass incarceration, to her active support of genocide, and her total
capitulation to corporate power on progressive issues from banning
fracking to guaranteeing healthcare...
In every single way, a Harris Presidency is
a continuation of the corporate politics and popular revolt that
delivered the White House to a cartoon villain in the first
place.
Indeed, we can be
certain that “Nothing will fundamentally change” under Harris. And
that is the problem.
We need much more than
fundamental change. We need a radical transformation of our social and
political landscape – or the next cartoon villain elected may be
competent enough to finish us off.
They called it Obamamania in 2008. In 2024,
it’s been rebranded as Kamalanomenon.
They fooled us once. We won’t be fooled
again.
It
remains true that there is ONLY ONE anti-genocide, pro-peace,
pro-worker, climate action campaign with a pathway to the White House
this November – ours. We need your financial support to deliver our
mandate at the ballot box. |
