Black Movement Ecosystem Seeks Community Grantmakers!
We are recruiting members to join the Community Grantmaker Committee, which will serve from October 2024 through May 2025 and will Are you interested in being a part of this work? Applications open now through September 12, 5 p.m.
You will work alongside fellow Community Grantmakers to design the application and review process to make decisions about which organizations will receive grants. You will gain insights on what community-led grantmaking is and tools for engaging in collective decision-making. Committee members will receive an honorarium of $1,500 as a gift of appreciation for participating.

Making Radical Impact in an Election Cycle & Beyond
In the first of Headwaters' Donor Education Series... learn how to make an impact with your donations this crucial election season - with a Headwaters twist. Join us on Wednesday, August 21 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. CT to learn more! In this 90-minute virtual lunch & learn, donors will learn the differences between donating to a 501c3, 501c4, PAC, or an individual candidate. All are welcome.

We are currently accepting applications for the 2024-2025 Giving Project Grant! The deadline to submit an application is August 29, 2024 at 5 p.m. Giving Project grants provide general operating support to BIPOC-led organizations rooted in community organizing work across Minnesota. Help spread the word to organizations advancing gender justice in Minnesota!

This evening of celebration will reflect on four decades of Headwaters' work and the broader movement's history, while building a collective vision for the next 40 years of liberation, power, and justice in Minnesota.
Join us on September 30 from 5:30 - 8:00 PM for live art, conversation with grantee partners, and inspiration for all the movement builders in the HFJ community as we look ahead to the next 40 years.

🎤 ReGENerate & Reimagine Our Future: A Showcase by Asian American Youth
Thursday, August 15 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
This showcase is an opportunity to hear from Asian American youth about the issues that are impacting them through arts and storytelling. ReGENerate is MN8's youth leadership program for Southeast Asian and Asian American youth. ReGENerate is about all of the endless possibilities and magic that happen when young people lead. Our movement work is an homage to our ancestors, community leaders, and mentors who ground us in their resilience and power. RSVP Required! There will be light refreshments and art created by youth for sale!

Join Million Artist Movement and Pillsbury House + Theatre for a special reading of the new play THIS IS A PRO-TEST OF THE EMERGENCY BROADCAST SYSTEM by Lester Mayers. The play draws inspiration from the courageous actions of the students from the Afro-American Action Committee who made history by taking over Morrill Hall in January 1969. Following the reading, there will be a Q&A with playwright Lester Mayers. The event is free.

👨⚖️ Understanding & Using Treaty Rights

Join the Native Governance Center to learn about the the present state of treaties with the United States from Indigenous leaders working in a variety of sectors. Attendees will come away with an understanding of how Native nations and citizens are using their treaty rights and how they can support sovereignty through by taking action that honors treaties.

🎬 Mizna Film Series, Feminist Visions: August Screening

The August program of Mizna Film Series: Feminist Visions presents ZERDA AND THE SONGS OF FORGETTING with MONANGAMBEE. Algerian novelist and translator Assia Djebar changed professions to make LA ZERDA ET LES CHANTS DE L’OUBLI. Using French newsreels, the film represents the colonization of the Maghreb, rethinking the dominant narrative of this history. A furious swan song to colonial violence, the film plays with documentary form, recutting images and reconstructing history alongside a soundtrack comprised of multi-vocal chants and experimental music.
Please join Economic Justice and Labor Educator Mark McDermott, and Workers Confluence, for a presentation and discussion on Race and Labor History. Over the past 7 years Mark has delivered presentations to affiliates of over 27 International Unions, including joining the Minnesota State Building Trades Convention as keynote speaker last year. We encourage both union staff, rank-and-file members, and other interested community members to take part in this event.
