For the first time in nearly 40 years, the Environmental Protection Agency used its emergency authority to stop the use of a pesticide associated with serious health risks.
The pesticide DCPA, sold under the name Dacthal, commonly used to control weeds on crops like broccoli, brussels sprouts and kale, has been linked to irreversible harm to the developing fetus, including impaired brain development. This action is particularly urgent, since many pregnant people may have been unknowingly exposed to the pesticide.
