Plus, dispensaries file for union elections

DC region AFSCME members and Governor Tim Walz join international convention

In his first solo campaign event as Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz spoke to attendees at AFSCME’s 46th International Convention on August 13. Members of AFSCME Maryland Council 3 as well as AFSCME locals from across the country were in Los Angeles for the event.

“We know that when unions are strong, America is strong,” Walz said to the crowd. "That’s why Vice President Harris and I have both joined workers on the picket line. And it’s why, as governor, I signed one of the biggest packages of pro-worker policies in history into law. Today, Minnesota is one of the best states for workers in the nation. That’s our vision for the entire country.” Watch Gov. Walz's full remarks at AFSCME's 46th International Convention »

Thank you, Community Services Agency supporters!

"Labor Cares, Labor Shares" is more than just the motto of the Community Services Agency (CSA). It's something that is demonstrated every day.

Thank you to the generous supporters who responded in the late spring to an urgent appeal for funds to help CSA with general operations as we transition to new leadership. In particular, thank you to the Law Firm of O'Donoghue and O'Donoghue, Union Privilege/Union Plus, Union Labor Life Insurance Company (ULLICO), Amalgamated Transit Union, International Union of Elevator Constructors, Bank of Labor and the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers International Union. To date, the appeal has raised $24,750!

One other way to support CSA and its Emergency Assistance Fund for union members in need is to register today for CSA's Annual Golf Tournament, which will take place this year on Monday, September 23. Sponsorships, foursomes, tee signs, ads, donations for raffle prizes all are needed and appreciated! Email Kathleen McKirchy for more info.
