John,
Next week, Democratic leaders and delegates from all 50 states and U.S. territories will gather in Chicago for the 2024 Democratic National Convention. They’ll officially nominate the Democratic candidates for President and Vice President, adopt a party platform, host speakers such as past Democratic presidents, and demonstrate the Democratic party’s values to the American people.
This is the time Democrats work to unite our party.
Next week’s Democratic National Convention is an opportunity for Democratic candidates and delegates to show they’re listening to and moving with their base of voters.
U.S. Democratic voters have been clear: a vast majority want a permanent ceasefire and to stop arming Israel. The majority of Democratic voters also believe that Israel’s government is committing a genocide against Palestinians. They don’t want their tax dollars to continue funding the mass murder of Palestinian children.
Inside this year’s Democratic National Convention, delegates representing the hundreds of thousands of people who voted “uncommitted” in this year’s presidential primaries will push for the U.S. to stop arming Israel. Outside the Convention in Chicago and around the country, anti-genocide activists are also planning to hold rallies demanding an arms embargo.
Sign now to call on delegates and Democratic party leaders to demonstrate their alignment with Democratic voters at next week’s Democratic National Convention, including by pushing for an arms embargo to stop the Israeli government’s war crimes.
As the top funder and weapons supplier for Israel’s military, our government has the needed leverage to stop the slaughter of Palestinians now. Instead, the Biden administration just sent more bombs, billions more dollars in aid, and even troops to support Israel’s assault on Gaza.
Instead of funding mass death, Democrats should be ending poverty and investing in Americans’ needs like housing and healthcare. The U.S. is the wealthiest nation in the world, but most American families live paycheck to paycheck, and more continue to experience homelessness as rents and home prices skyrocket.
Democratic leaders who want to defeat Donald Trump must reconnect with our Democratic base around the country, who want to see more courage and urgency from the Democratic party.
While negotiating and voting on the party’s official platform next week, Democratic leaders and delegates should push to include demands from our Democratic base such as an arms embargo, fair and humane immigration policies, affordable housing and healthcare, lifting families out of the cycle of poverty, and more.
The Democratic party platform should reflect the party’s priorities as the party of the working class, such as fighting corporate greed and strengthening unions. The platform should also reflect a commitment to human rights, including following international and U.S. laws that forbid aiding governments that are committing human rights violations.
Sign on to tell Democratic party leaders and delegates: Use next week’s Democratic National Convention to show that you’re listening to the Democratic base, including by pushing for an arms embargo to stop the Israeli government’s war crimes.
Thank you for continuing to push for the promises of a multiracial democracy, with a truly representative government that reflects the American people’s priorities.
In solidarity and service,
Rashida
