The fact that our leaders' cowardly inaction has created a Lockdown Generation means one thing: We are failing this generation.

Years of refusal to pass meaningful, common-sense gun safety reforms have left hundreds of children dead, thousands traumatized by the violence they have witnessed, and countless more scarred by the anxiety of knowing that, at any moment, their school could become a battlefield.

This is no way for a child to grow up. Haven't we had enough of senseless gun violence in our schools?

Let me set the record straight, friend: Massacres like the many we have seen over the past 25 years are preventable. But we need more than thoughts and prayers and remembrance. We need action to get guns out of schools and make our communities safer.

I'm inspired by VP candidate Tim Walz's evolution on gun violence prevention. The former school teacher from rural Minnesota became an advocate for stricter gun laws after the Parkland shooting in 2018, and he hasn't backed down since.

I know exactly how much the Brady team means it when they say we need your help — and I'm counting on you just as much as they are. We're all in this fight together, because none of us are safe until all of us are. And that day will be pushed further and further down the line if we fail to hit this goal and power real change.
