** MEDIA ADVISORY: First Lady Cathy Justice to welcome Friends With Paws therapy dogs at Spencer Middle School and Point Pleasant High School tomorrow

SPENCER MIDDLE SCHOOL

WHO:
First Lady Cathy Justice, Roane County Schools Superintendent Richard Duncan, Spencer Middle School Principal Annette Claypool, Roane County Board of Education members, local officials.

WHAT: Introduction of Flora, a female Golden Retriever, who is the 34th therapy dog to be placed as part of First Lady Cathy Justice's Friends With Paws initiative.

The Friends With Paws program ([link removed]) is a partnership between the Governor’s Office, West Virginia Communities In Schools Nonprofit, and the West Virginia Department of Education. Therapy dogs will be placed in CIS program schools where students are disproportionately affected by poverty, substance misuse, or other at-risk situations, and are in the greatest need of a support animal. The dogs will serve as a healthy and friendly outlet for these students to address trauma and other social-emotional issues.

WHO:
First Lady Cathy Justice, Mason County Schools Superintendent Melissa Farmer, Pt. Pleasant High School Principal Bill Cottrill, Mason County School Board Members,County Commissioners Rick Handley, Sam Nibert, and Tracie Doolittle, local officials.

WHAT: Introduction of Farley, a male Golden Retriever, who is the 35th therapy dog to be placed as part of First Lady Cathy Justice's Friends With Paws initiative.

WHEN: Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at 1:30 p.m.
