In following CDC guidelines, we're postponing all in-person events until it's safe to gather again. This has a direct impact on our fundraising; if you were thinking about supporting Run for Something this year, your generosity is especially needed right now. Hi there --
I'll never get sick of sharing what Run for Something alumni are doing for their communities. And right now, it feels particularly incredible to know that there are folks in office who are focused on doing the work to keep their constituents safe and healthy:
- In Connecticut, State Sen. Will Haskell (who took office a year ago, fresh out of college at the age of 22!) is representing a district that has 42% of the state's positive cases -- including Will's own dad and step-mom. His accessibility & work-ethic is unflagging.
- Colorado State Representative Yadira Caraveo, a pediatrician, is part of the team of CO state legislators who's thinking through how to restructure legislative session and procedure to stay in line with public health recommendations.
- In South Carolina, State Representative Kambrell Garvin is fighting for his community -- which is predominately African American and includes one of the hardest-hit zipcodes in South Carolina -- to get the help they need.
- And in California, Carlsbad Councilmember Priya Bhat-Patel published a powerful and personal op-ed on immediate action we can take to protect victims of domestic violence and sexual assault during this crisis.
Local governments are leading during this crisis -- and demonstrating how imperative it is that we put someone who gets it in as many seats as possible. We're ready to help young progressives run, but our continued existence isn't a sure thing. Chip in if you can.
