As a cabin cleaner servicing American Airlines' planes at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, my job involves cleaning planes and conducting multiple security sweeps. Despite the importance of our work, the conditions we face are grueling.
The air conditioning in our breakroom is hardly ever turned on, the jet bridges are very hot, and we never really know if the AC inside the airplane cabins will be turned on when we start to clean. One of my coworkers was told that we’re not allowed to accept water from flight attendants, and I even passed out from the heat last year.
For many working people like me heat protections aren’t guaranteed. Not for airport service workers or for warehouse and factory workers, farmworkers, fast food workers, or even gig workers like those who work for Uber or Lyft.
Today, pledge to demand federal heat protections for workers. Your support is crucial and can help save lives.
To show the strength of workers and our demand for elected officials and greedy corporations to take action to protect workers, we are kicking off our first-ever Heat Week. During Heat Week, service, care, and farm workers will lead a coordinated set of activities including marches, delegations, and town halls in at least 10 cities from coast to coast, raising the alarm on dangerous heat at work.

We risk our lives every day because corporations choose profits over our safety! We’re not asking for much—just cool water, a place to take breaks, and training on heat illness. These are very basic needs for our safety.
