Welcome to the New JBP Weekly!

A "Not Obvious" Development

After two illustrious years, the Not Obvious newsletter is merging with JBP Weekly. A huge thanks to Scott Baker, who curated Not Obvious with panache. JBP Weekly has historically been an exclusive newsletter for Dr. Peterson's supporters and donors, but with the COVID-19 crisis we are making it free to the public. Previous subscribers to Not Obvious are being enrolled automatically, and everyone else is welcome to sign up at jordanbpeterson.com. Tell your friends, tell your enemies, and keep reading...

The Paywalls Go Down

We are opening up our free-speech community at thinkspot.com during COVID-19. The thinkspot platform is a groundbreaking hub for sharing ideas without censorship, discovering new voices, monetizing creativity, and interacting with leading intellectuals. Starting in early May, there will be no paywall, no required subscription, and no purchase necessary. Sign up now for priority access as the walls go down!

JBP Team Update

We are rolling out a suite of new projects!

While Dr. Peterson recovers, we are working behind the scenes on many exciting new initiatives:
  • Translations: We are funding professional translations of Dr. Peterson's ideas in a range of languages, beginning with Russian and ultimately including Korean, Portuguese, and more. We will be making many of these available for free to the international community via foreign-language social media. Watch for the roll-out soon!
  • Essays and More: We're also working on an essay-writing app, a couples' version of the personality test, a self-organization program for high school students, and a prototype of the online education platform.
Can you help us with these initiatives? Especially in these unprecedented times, every dollar and bitcoin counts.

The Biblical Podcasts:
  • We are re-releasing Dr. Peterson's biblical lectures, during a time when we believe it to be helpful.
  • Listen to the current release on God and the Hierarchy of Authority (season 3, episode 3): "Most people who are in positions of authority are just as hemmed in by ethical responsibly, or even more so, as people at the other levels of the hierarchy.... That's not surprising. You want to be responsible for 200 people? You really want that? That's hard work, man." Listen now.

From the Files

"Why can't I stick to my plans during COVID?"

The hard question is why some people CAN.

"We don’t understand the difference between planning and implementation. We don’t know what that is."

"One of the prerequisites for thinking abstractly is that you can detach your plans from your action. Right? Because otherwise you just automatically act out everything you planned. But that isn’t what people do. They separate out their thinking so that they can work in an abstract space that’s divorced from their action, so they can lay out multiple plans without necessarily acting them out. But then that introduces the additional complication of having to implement, and industrious people seem to be good at implementation. But we don’t know why. The best we’ve been able to do so far—and this is so vague it’s embarrassing—is that we think that maybe industrious people find inactivity aversive...."

The Old Man and the Sea

A good book for being isolated, in a boat, in quest of a great fish.
