** Building Trades of Alberta Cancels Annual Conference due to Wildfires
------------------------------------------------------------
Each year, I look forward to the Building Trades of Alberta's annual conference, which is always held in Jasper. The recent wildfires in Jasper have forced the Building Trades of Alberta to make the tough decision to cancel their conference this year. This is a disappointing but understandable turn of events, and I look forward to returning to Jasper next year.

The community of Jasper has always been welcoming to the Building Trades, and now it’s our turn to support them. ** Canadian Apprentice Grant
------------------------------------------------------------

Last month, ESDC announced an end date for the federal Apprenticeship Incentive Grant (AIG) and the Apprenticeship Completion Grant (ACG ([link removed]) ) ([link removed]) which followed last year’s end to the Apprenticeship Incentive Grant for Women (AIG-W). These grants, which have been in place since 2006, provided more than 800,000 grants of $1000 or $2000 for apprentices entering or completing their apprenticeships. Apprentices will have until March 31, 2025 to apply for the grants.

I recently had a productive conversation with a high ranking government official to advocate for the return of a more accessible grant and incentive program. During this conversation, they assured me they understand the negative impact this will have on our members and our apprentices, and will continue to work with CBTU to come up with possible solutions. This is a priority issue for CBTU and our members, and I'll share developments as they arise.

In the meantime, I encourage you to communicate with apprentices about the closing of this program and the March 31, 2025 deadline and help them complete their applications before the program closes.

** Tradeswomen Build Nations

Next month, the 2024 Tradeswomen Build Nations conference ([link removed]) will take place in New Orleans! I'm looking forward to seeing our Canadian sisters at our Canadian Networking Event on Saturday, September 28th. We'll have more details for you on the Canadian Networking Event soon.


** 2025 CBTU Conference
------------------------------------------------------------
A reminder to save the date for our next annual conference, which will take place April 28-30, 2025 in Ottawa.
Finally, congratulations to all the Canadian athletes from coast to coast who performed so well at the summer Olympics in Paris and made all Canadians proud. Check out the full list of Canadians who won medals at the Games ([link removed]) .

** Building Trades of Alberta annule sa conférence annuelle en raison des incendies de forêt

Chaque année, j'attends la conférence annuelle des Building Trades of Alberta, qui se tient toujours à Jasper. Les récents incendies de forêt à Jasper ont contraint le Building Trades of Alberta à prendre la décision difficile d'annuler leur conférence cette année. C'est une décision décevante mais compréhensible, et je me réjouis de retourner à Jasper l'année prochaine.

La communauté de Jasper a toujours été accueillante à l'égard des métiers de la construction, et c'est maintenant à notre tour de les soutenir. C'est pourquoi le Syndicats des métiers de la construction du Canada font un don à la Croix-Rouge canadienne pour aider la ville et ses habitants à se bâtir, et je vous encourage à faire de même. ** Bourse canadienne aux apprentis
------------------------------------------------------------

Le mois dernier, ESDC a annoncé la date de fin de la subvention fédérale d'encouragement à l'apprentissage (AIG) et de la subvention d'achèvement de l'apprentissage (ACG) ([link removed]) , après la fin de la subvention d'encouragement à l'apprentissage pour les femmes (AIG-W) l'année dernière. Ces subventions, en place depuis 2006, ont permis d'octroyer plus de 800 000 subventions de 1 000 ou 2 000 dollars à des apprentis entrant en apprentissage ou terminant leur formation. J'ai récemment eu une conversation productive avec un haut fonctionnaire du gouvernement pour plaider en faveur du retour d'un programme de subventions et d'incitations plus accessible. Au cours de cette conversation, ils m'ont assuré qu'ils comprenaient l'impact négatif que cela aurait sur nos membres et nos apprentis, et qu'ils continueraient à travailler avec le SMCC pour trouver des solutions possibles. Il s'agit d'une question prioritaire pour le SMCC et ses membres, et je vous ferai part des développements au fur et à mesure.

Entre-temps, je vous encourage à communiquer avec les apprentis au sujet de la fermeture de ce programme et de la date limite du 31 mars 2025, et à les aider à remplir leur demande avant la fermeture du programme.
