When I found out that Kamala Harris was stepping up as the new Democratic presidential nominee, my first thought was:
Don't sleep on seconds-in-command, y'all.
As the lieutenant governor of Minnesota, I know what it takes to be the second-in-command. We're ready to step up to the plate — any time, for any reason. That's why we're here. That's the commitment we've made.
And that's exactly what Vice President Kamala Harris did for us.

Earlier this year, at a big EMILYs List event in D.C., Vice President Harris approached me, squeezed my shoulders, and told me: "Remember — I have your back." And I echoed those words right back to her: "I've got your back, too."
I kept that promise: I kicked off the first-ever surrogate event for Harris 2024 two days into her candidacy, and I've been campaigning for her ever since.
So you can imagine my excitement when she selected Gov. Tim Walz, my friend of 20 years and partner in justice at the Minnesota Capitol, as her running mate. Tim has grit, grace, and an unsurpassed ability to just get stuff done. He's pretty darn great.
This ticket will keep us moving forward. This ticket will bring joy and dignity back to American politics. And this ticket will lead the charge of defending our democracy and restoring our rights.
As an EMILYs List supporter, you know: we were built for this fight. With the help of this millions-strong pro-choice community, we'll overcome hate with love and fear with freedom this November. That starts with electing Kamala Harris and Tim Walz — but it doesn't end there. We need to take back the House, defend the Senate, and flip state chambers. We need Democratic pro-choice mayors and city council members and lieutenant governors (of course). We need a resounding, nationwide victory — only then can we banish the hate and extremism of the modern-day GOP to the annals of American history.
