** Human dignity in a pandemic: privacy, refugees and drugs
------------------------------------------------------------

The ongoing lockdown has changed our relationship with the state in profound ways. There are widespread concerns about how individual rights can be defended during this unprecedented expansion in state power. And as the machinery of Government focuses on the big picture, many are worried that the most vulnerable in society are being left out in the cold.

What can be done to ensure the wellbeing of those facing especially difficult lockdown circumstances, like rough sleepers, refugees and people who use drugs? How can we protect public health while ensuring sweeping new policing powers are not abused? And what should the Government’s post-pandemic priorities be when it comes to protecting the dignity of individuals across the country?

Join us for the fifth ASI webinar as we discuss how best to preserve human dignity and individual rights in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.

The numbers in the webinar are limited on a first-come basis. We will also live stream it on Facebook and it will also be possible to rewatch it after the event.

* Silkie Carlo ([link removed]) is Director of Big Brother Watch, a leading civil liberties and privacy NGO.
* Niamh Eastwood ([link removed]) is Executive Director of Release, the national centre of expertise on drugs and drugs law. Release provides free non-judgmental, specialist advice and information to the public and professionals on issues related to drug use and to drug laws.
* Maria Stephens ([link removed]) is the Advocacy Manager at Refugee Action, an independent national charity that provides advice and support to refugees and asylum seekers in the UK and campaigns for a fairer asylum system.
