Hello John,
The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) is trying to bust the unions at its service centers with mass layoffs and the removal of work to non-union offices. They are jeopardizing the U.S. immigration system to save a few bucks and silence the voices of organized workers.
But you can make a difference for the members of UE Local 208, 808 and 1008! It’s not too late for USCIS to reverse this reckless decision. Workers at the USCIS service centers, many of whom have worked there for decades, deserve better. Send a letter now to help save union jobs! It takes less than a minute:
As of July 26, 2024, more than 300 UE members have been laid off at the direction of USCIS. The agency plans to lay off hundreds more in the coming months. Despite USCIS claims, only a small portion of these union members' work has been absorbed by federal employees. Their work is being relocated primarily to lower-paying, non-union sites that are already understaffed and overburdened.
USCIS can decide today to protect the rights of workers and to ensure that immigrants have access to an efficient legal process. Send a letter to USCIS officials, President Joe Biden, and Vice President Kamala Harris using our online tool at justiceatuscis.org, which will provide you with a sample letter you can modify.
