Team,

We're facing more grave injustice and we're fighting back.

Last week, the Center for Reproductive Rights filed federal complaints against two Texas hospitals on behalf of two women who were denied life-saving treatment for ectopic pregnancies. This continues our work on behalf of patients denied or delayed critical abortion care despite dangerous pregnancy complications.

Nationwide, ectopic pregnancy—in which a fertilized egg implants in a location other than inside the uterus—is the leading cause of maternal mortality in the first trimester, accounting for up to 10% of all pregnancy-related deaths.

Here's what you need to know:

  • Texas hospitals are turning away patients in desperate need of emergency care for life-threatening ectopic pregnancies.
  • The Center has filed formal complaints against two of these hospitals with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
  • These complaints charge the hospitals with violating EMTALA, the federal law that mandates emergency treatment.

This is an urgent crisis. Denying critical care in these dire circumstances isn't just unlawful—it threatens patients’ health, fertility, and possibly their lives.

We are fighting back, but we can't do it alone. Your support is essential to holding these hospitals accountable and defending the rights of every patient.

Stay tuned for updates as we continue this critical fight.
