British American Tobacco deserves to be in the Corporate Hall of Shame!

For years, we’ve closely monitored and challenged the industry’s attempts to curb lifesaving tobacco control policies.

Despite the global movement to restrict Big Tobacco’s ability to sell its deadly products, tobacco corporations are using its tried-and-true tactics to push emerging tobacco products in countries where smoking rates are dropping, especially those in the Global South.

And when it comes to corporate abuse, British American Tobacco (BAT) is one of the worst offenders on the list.

BAT, one of the world’s largest tobacco corporations, has been accused of undermining public health policy in countries like Brazil, Kenya, South Africa, and more.¹ And, according to investigations by tobacco industry watchdog groups like Stopping Tobacco Organizations and Products (STOP), BAT has made questionable payments of hundreds of thousands of dollars in countries across Africa to prevent or delay the implementation of lifesaving tobacco policies.²

Big Tobacco cannot continue to peddle death and disease globally. Vote for British American Tobacco and together, we can hold the corporation accountable for its abuses!

Despite Big Tobacco’s attempts to continue business as usual, governments around the world are standing up against the industry and challenging their nefarious practices.

In 2016, Kenya passed one of the strongest anti-bribery laws in Africa after it was revealed that BAT had paid bribes to sway public officials across several countries in Central and East Africa in an attempt to water down tobacco control measures in the region.³

Then, in 2019, Brazil launched a lawsuit against BAT and other Big Tobacco corporations to recover the country’s healthcare costs associated with the tobacco epidemic.⁴

Big Tobacco is running out of options to continue peddling its products. And together with our allies, we are making sure that corporations like BAT are held liable for their abuses.
