350Bk's People vs Fossil Fuel group will join with SANE Energy Project, No North Brooklyn Pipeline and 350.org to tell New York State's Public Service Commission and Governor Hochul that we want the gas system retired, not expanded. The British for-profit utility National Grid wants to raise our gas rates to expand gas infrastructure when we should be gradually decommissioning it. This action is one of many actions across the state and across the country targeting for-profit utilities that people want a renewable future. Come to the local National Grid HQ at 2 Hanson Place and Flatbush Avenue this Thursday, to join the ‘We Won’t Pay to Be Poisoned’ rally!

Join Power Hour to address extreme heat in New York
Mondays, 12:00 - 1:00 pm
Protect Heat-Vulnerable Urban Communities! Join Power Hour and the Extreme Heat Coalition to help pass three life saving pieces of legislation: Tenant's Right to Cooling, Codify Cooling Centers, and Cool Pavement Pilot. Extreme heat is the deadliest impact of climate change, 50 percent of the heat-related deaths are among Black/African American people and we can look to policies like redlining that have resulted in these outcomes. There can be as much as a 31 degree disparity in heat indexes across the city. What can we do about it? On the following Mondays, join Power Hour, WE ACT and NRDC as part of the greater coalition on protections against extreme heat in NYC for the greater good. Sign Up to take action with Power Hour!
Voting organization of the week
Climate Changemakers Action Hub
This week we begin focusing on individual organizations that can help you get out the vote to elect local, state and federal government officials who can move us toward a just and sustainable future. Climate Changemakers has launched a new Climate Vote Action Hub which is a one-stop-shop for anyone looking for information about candidates running in 2024. The site includes a centralized calendar of activities, a Slack community and a comprehensive action plan for those inclined. While 350Brooklyn does not endorse candidates for office, we think this website is a great resource to utilize while making your own decisions about organizing, taking action, and voting in this upcoming election!

Saving Lives in Puerto Rico's Next Hurricane panel
Tuesday, September 24 from 5:30-7:30pm
Save the date! Join us for a panel discussion and fundraiser to benefit AMANESER 2025, a Puerto Rican environmental justice organization that works to bring rooftop solar systems to the people and communities that need it the most. These affordable, small-scale systems are designed to meet the critical needs of refrigeration, lighting and medical equipment during Puerto Rico's frequent blackouts. With a very limited budget and operating only by word-of-mouth, AMANESER has trained community groups in more than ten municipalities to install and maintain these systems, providing energy security and fostering self-reliance. Sliding scale donations encouraged at the event at The People's Forum at 320 West 37th Street, New York.
Stop EACOP and Global South fight back in NYC
Diaspora communities called out AIG
On July 26th, more than 150 people, including activists from 350 national and chapters from Brooklyn, NYC, Seattle, NH and Mass, along with Black Hive, DRUM, and Climate Defenders, turned out to join the global campaign to Stop the East African Crude Oil Pipeline, which would have a devastating ecological and human cost if built. AIG, one of the ten biggest insurers of the fossil fuel industry, was called out by the Global South diaspora, asking them to join 28 other insurance companies that have committed not to insure EACOP. On the 25th, more than 60 folks joined in on an art build, a livestream meeting with Uganda frontline activists, and Sustaining All Life listening circles to build bridges among these organizers. Thank you to all who participated!
