WorkWe have a drug that might delay menopause -- and help us live longer Menopause is weird, biologically speaking. People, five species of whales, and maybe chimpanzees are the only animals that seem to live beyond their reproductive years. And the exuberant crowd—more than 14,000 strong, lining up in the rain—resembled the early days of Barack Obama. Inside a Philadelphia arena on Aug. 6, Vice President Kamala Harris was greeted with a kind of reception a Democratic presidential candidate hasn’t gotten in years. WorkThe First Amendment is in grave danger if Trump wins Dissidents were commonly thrown in prison, often for many years, when the government disagreed with their views. Near the end of World War I, the great union leader Eugene Debs was sentenced to 10 years in prison for giving a speech opposing the draft, and his conviction was upheld by a unanimous Supreme Court. Joseph McCarthy was ramping up his witch hunts against suspected communists, the Supreme Court blessed his and similar efforts by upholding the convictions of several individuals who did nothing more than try to organize a (wildly unsuccessful) Communist Party in the United States. WorkJudge in Elon Musk's Texas lawsuits owns thousands of dollars worth of Tesla stock Hofstra University Law School Professor James Sample, who focuses on judicial ethics agrees, telling NPR, “It is absolutely reasonable to question his impartiality in a case where the party and interest is a principal in a company the judge owns stock in.” Sample also added that just the appearance that he might be biased is enough of a reason for O’Connor to recuse himself, saying, “Let another competent judge handle these cases without serious questions surrounding them.” WorkWorkWorkWorkNative American author Tommy Orange selected as the next Future Library writer “I woke up the day after finding out about being asked to do this with a line in my head: I was born in the future,” said Orange. “The line itself doesn’t mean anything on its own but I thought: Could this be the beginning of what I write for this project? I think it’s a little scary writing for people who will most definitely deem us stupid and inferior in many ways just as when we look back a hundred years we can see clearly all the problems we had just being decent human beings.” WorkWorkUS to resume sales of offensive weapons to Saudi Arabia Saudi Arabia cooperated with the United States, along with Jordan and the United Arab Emirates, in repelling an Iranian missile and drone barrage against Israel in April in response to an Israeli strike on an Iranian diplomatic building in Syria.
