Your weekly Indivisible Newsletter Indivisibles,
Back in 2019, MSNBC reported on a Center for Public Integrity report that Trump owed hundreds of thousands of dollars to cities across the country in campaign costs (and nine million dollars to DC alone).
It’s 2024, do you think much has changed?
As of today, Green Bay, WI is owed $33,389 (even more than in 2019) and Billings, MT is owed at least $45,900…and those are just the simplest ones to find. Many cities have seemingly given up on being reimbursed.
It’s no surprise that the Trump campaign is run with so little integrity -- his history is littered with examples of him shirking responsibility while trying to reap as much reward for himself and his cronies as possible.
But the people are seeing through his smokescreens.
In a Times/Sienna poll taken after President Biden withdrew from the race, Vice President Kamala Harris leads Trump by four points in each of the key battleground states of Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. That is an incredible swing from the Biden polls and a reminder of how excited the country is for Kamala Harris’ presidency and how tired they are of Trump’s MAGA schtick.
Now we have an opportunity to keep growing that excitement.
Next week is the Democratic National Convention (DNC) and Vice President Harris is speaking in prime time on Thursday evening. So let’s make a party out of it.
Host a watch party for Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris’ DNC speech on Thursday, August 22.
We are in a cultural-political moment. As Trump’s MAGA momentum potentially wanes and Vice President Harris continues to energize new voters across the country, it’s crucial that we harness this energy and transform it into action all the way through November. That’s where you come in.
Let’s make an event out of Harris’ convention speech. You can register your event here, and if you need planning help, use our simple House Party Toolkit.
But, keep it simple:
- Gather your friends and family
- Watch the speech together
- Make an ask at the end for people to participate in Neighbor2Neighbor (if eligible) or any of our State to State resources
- Follow up afterward
These don’t need to be massive, press-oriented events. In fact, they shouldn’t be. These should be the type of community fun you might think of for a Superbowl party or to watch the Olympics.
Make a dip. Put out some finger foods. Whip up a hotdish. Let’s make saving our democracy a fun time.

- Check out our new Project 2025 resources. You asked for more specific resources on Project 2025, its impact, and how we need to talk about it to win in November, and we answered. Project 2025 is the most thorough blueprint we have ever seen from MAGA Republicans on how they plan to strip away our rights, protections, and freedoms if they achieve power. But as dangerous as their plan is for the American people, it is just as damaging to their electability. But only when people know about it. We have to make sure people understand just how extreme Project 2025 intends to be, and here’s your literature to do it.
Sign up to reach voters in key races with our new Majority Over MAGA: State to State resource. Neighbor2Neighbor (see below) may only be available in our target districts, but it’s going to take everyone coming together to drive wins in November. This State to State page will be our home for all of the other resources and strategies that will power us to a true Democratic trifecta that will codify reproductive freedoms and enact democracy reforms. Check this page to learn about phonebanks, textbanks, postcards, reimbursements, and more that will be the backbone of our 2024 election program.
Neighbor2Neighbor is open!!!! Check and see if it’s available in your area, and help get out the vote. We have opened our highly effective, community conversation program -- Neighbor2Neighbor. If you want to have the biggest impact on voter turnout, this is the most effective way we’ve found to mobilize community members (our numbers prove it). Check and see if Neighbor2Neighbor is available in your area and, if it is, sign up today.
P.S. We rely on your support to keep call pages up and running, fund ads to get the word out, and continue all the work we’re doing this year. If you’re able, click here to donate to help fund our work.

Majority Over MAGA Book Talk with Ari Berman
Register for Co-Executive Director Ezra Levin’s conversation with Ari Berman -- author of Minority Rule -- on Wednesday, September 4 at 5pm ET/2pm PT.
The mob that stormed the Capitol on January 6, 2021, represented an extreme form of the central danger facing American democracy today: a blatant disregard for the will of the majority.
This crisis didn’t begin or end with Donald Trump’s attempt to overturn the 2020 election. Through voter suppression, election subversion, gerrymandering, dark money, the takeover of the courts, and the whitewashing of history, reactionary white conservatives have strategically entrenched power in the face of a massive demographic and political shift. Ari Berman charts these efforts with sweeping historical research and incisive on-the-ground reporting, chronicling how a wide range of antidemocratic tactics interact with profound structural inequalities in institutions like the Electoral College, the Senate, and the Supreme Court to threaten the survival of representative government in America.
Chilling and revelatory, Minority Rule exposes the long history of the conflict between white supremacy and multiracial democracy that has reached a fever pitch today -- while also telling the inspiring story of resistance to these regressive efforts. Sign up for the book conversation today!

Hollers for Harris -- Appalachian Call
***Note: This call is specifically for Indivisibles in Appalachia***
Register for our Appalachia-focused, virtual Hollers for Harris call this Thursday, August 15 at 6pm ET. Whether you’re up in southern New York or down in northern Mississippi, Appalachia is linked by a heritage that often sees our values and needs left behind in political conversations. But we have a voice. We have power. And, it’s time to use it.
Join your fellow Appalachian Indivisibles along with special guests Charles Booker, Trae Crowder, Joe Troop, and Appodlachia as we talk about our Appalachian pride and how we can translate that into electoral and legislative wins. Whether it’s reproductive freedom, jobs, wages, prisons, education, or any major political topic, we know these issues hit our communities hard and disproportionately. Now is the time for us to get loud to make sure we’re electing the candidates who will have our best interests at heart -- and we all know that’s not shill-billy JD Vance.
Let’s build community, get fired up, and put in the work now to elect Harris-Walz in November. Register today.

Demand Your Members of Congress Call For A Ceasefire
**Content Warning: Talk about the current humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Jump to the line break if you need to avoid this topic.** |
Last Thursday, the leaders of Egypt, the United States, and Qatar issued a joint statement pushing for a resolution to the ceasefire proposal.
It has been long reported that a framework for an agreement has been on the table, and the statement asserts that the parties have “only the details of implementation left to conclude.” This is what we have been so desperately calling for -- an end to the violence, the return of the hostages, and the unfettered distribution of humanitarian aid.
We continue to remain hopeful that the end may be in sight, but it cannot stop us from continuing to pressure our elected officials to do everything in their power to promote peace.
Why?
Because on the same Thursday when this statement was issued, the State Department notified Congress that it intends to release $3.5 billion to Israel which will likely be used to buy weapons from the US government. Two days later, Netanyahu’s military bombed another school refuge, killing nearly 100 Palestinians and injuring more.
The cycle of violence continues unabated. It is not time for more weapons, more killing. It is time for peace.
If we are as close to an end as this coalition of leaders seem to believe, it is crucial that we use every tool at our disposal to push a ceasefire agreement over the finish line. We must urge our elected leaders to exert all of the power at their disposal, and that means withholding offensive weaponry to encourage Netanyahu to come to the table and work toward peace.

We’ll follow that up by exploring what it means to prepare ourselves, be vigilant for one another, and safeguard our rights and our democracy moving forward.
