Hy-Vee sees spike in health and beauty sales

Hy-Vee says the closure of hair and nail salons during the coronavirus pandemic has resulted in huge sales growth of health and beauty products. The grocer said since mid-March, sales of hair trimmers have tripled while hair coloring, nail polish and nail care products doubled previous sales numbers as consumers take a DIY approach to grooming and pampering.

Sysco creates pop-up grocery in Fla.

Continuing a trend it started several weeks ago, food distributor Sysco created a pop-up grocery in the parking lot of an events center in Bonita Springs, Fla., giving shoppers a chance to order groceries online and then pick them up at a drive-thru. "This is just a great way for us to help the community get the products that they're looking for and at times are having a hard time obtaining," said Sysco spokeswoman Shannon Mutschler.

Technology in the trucking industry can reduce the risk of spreading diseases such as the coronavirus, says PowerFleet CEO Chris Wolfe, noting that trucking paperwork can be digitized and that his company's platform can access vehicles, thus removing the need for keys and paperwork that many people might touch. In addition, sensors can reduce the need for physical inspections of potentially contaminated surfaces, and 3G and Bluetooth technologies can help fleet operators "identify everything that was near the equipment," writes Vishnu Rajamanickam.
