no new gas in memphis take action poster

Hi John,

The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), our nation’s largest federal utility, is planning to build a multi-million dollar gas plant in South Memphis – a community already overburdened with industrial pollution. One of Breach’s first partner organizations, Memphis Community Against Pollution ([link removed]) (MCAP), is trying to stop it.

The proposed gas plant is part of a massive gas buildout likely to lead to higher power bills for Memphis residents and worsen the already-sky-high energy burdens facing local communities. A new gas plant would also worsen the impacts of climate change while pumping dangerous air pollution into a predominantly Black community.

Federal utilities like TVA should be fighting environmental injustices – not creating them.

MCAP (formerly Memphis Community Against the Pipeline) was successful in defeating the proposed Byhalia Pipeline in 2021 ([link removed]) and they can stop this dangerous gas plant proposal too. They are collecting signatures on a petition ([link removed]) to submit this week calling on President Biden to protect South Memphians by putting an end to these reckless gas plans and directing the TVA board to invest in safer clean energy solutions instead.

Please take a moment to help ([link removed]) !

In solidarity against fossil fuels,

Caitlin + the Breach team
