WMC restricts Benton County Physician’s License

OLYMPIA, WA – The Washington Medical Commission (WMC) restricted the license of Benton County physician Michael K, Turner, MD (Lic. #60072206), following a hearing in March of this year. The WMC determined that Dr. Turner failed to meet the standard of care by prescribing ivermectin to patients for COVID-19 infections without establishing a physician-patient relationship.

For some patients, Dr. Turner failed to meet the standard of care by prescribing ivermectin without sufficient evidence that ivermectin was an effective treatment for a COVID-19 infection, without providing appropriate informed consent, and without a discussion of the use of vaccines or other treatments. 

For two patients, the WMC found that Dr. Turner failed to meet the standard of care by failing to obtain more information about the patients’ liver disease before prescribing ivermectin.

The WMC also found that Dr. Turner failed to cooperate with the investigation by not providing information requested by an investigator.

The WMC issued a Final Order restricting Dr. Turner from prescribing ivermectin for the prevention or treatment of COVID-19 until such time as the FDA approves ivermectin for such indications. The order also requires Dr. Turner to complete continuing medical education in medical record-keeping, telehealth, and prevention and treatment of COVID-19; write a paper on how he intends to reshape his medical practice; and pay a fine of $5,000.

Dr. Tuner has 10 days to request reconsideration of the order and has 30 days to file an appeal in superior court.
