Hi team -- Oliver here! I run social media for California Environmental Voters, and I wanted to share some exciting content we’ve been working on.

We just launched a new video series called Know Your Bill that breaks down some of the most important climate justice legislation we’re fighting to pass this month!

Last week, we shared a video about legislation to shut down idle oil wells. Maybe you’ve never heard of them, but they account for 83% of the oil wells across California. These are wells that are operating at the end of their production life spans -- producing less than 15 barrels of oil a day.

Assemblymember Bryan introduced bill AB 2716, which would force oil companies to pay $10,000 every day they operate these oil wells in setback zones near schools, hospitals, and residential areas.

This is the kind of bold climate legislation we need to pass this month! Will you watch our 90-second explainer video and share it with your community?

Why does this bill matter? 2.7 million Californians live near these idle oil wells that lead to serious health impacts -- even as they produce very little oil. But right now, it’s easier and cheaper for oil and gas companies to let these wells continue producing minimal oil instead of shutting them down for good.

It’s past time for the fossil fuel industry to clean up its act -- and if they don’t, they should be held accountable and face fines every single day that they allow these wells to exacerbate the pollution impacting fenceline communities.

Check out our video about AB 2716 and help spread the word about this important legislation!

We’re counting on you all month long to help put pressure on our lawmakers to do the right thing and pass environmental justice bills that will protect our state’s climate for generations to come.

Sharing these educational videos is an effective way to help make our message loud and clear online: The California State Legislature can and must pass climate bills now.

Thanks for amplifying!
