Kamala Harris made the right choice by listening to the people and selecting Tim Walz as her running mate.
There's a lot to like about Walz—he comes from a community-backed, working-class background as a public school teacher, and his policy goals align more closely with the world we want to build.
But while this ticket offers hope, there's still plenty of room to grow.
Putting pressure on our elected leaders, even those we support, is essential for a healthy democracy.
We need to keep pushing the Harris/Walz ticket and stand firm on important issues, like calling for a ceasefire in Gaza.
We also must demand Harris/Walz change course from President Biden's unconditional arming of the Israeli government, which continues to use those arms to attack innocent Palestinians. We demand an arms embargo on Israel NOW.
I’ve been a proud ceasefire candidate throughout this campaign because we’re running a justice-focused movement that listens to the people of CA-34. Meanwhile, Jimmy Gomez refuses to support ceasefire legislation in Congress. If you want a representative who truly listens to the will of the people, contribute today.
No matter what some Democratic strategist on CNN or the Twitter hive mind says, debating the issues and publicly pressuring politicians is not only good for democracy—it’s the only way we’ve ever seen social and civil liberties advance throughout our history.
Democracy isn’t a “shut up and get on board” movement; it’s about constant, vocal engagement.
That’s what we’re doing, and that’s what we will continue to do.
And when I’m elected to Congress, I fully expect our community to hold me accountable as well—that’s what real leadership is all about.
Unfortunately, we’ve seen too many politicians, like my opponent, Jimmy Gomez, who are more interested in appeasing corporate donors than listening to the people.
Gomez has shown time and again that he is willing to side with special interests over the needs of our community.
That’s not the kind of leadership we need in Washington.
Our work doesn’t stop once the votes are counted; that’s just the beginning.
By keeping the pressure on, we can help shape a future that aligns with our values of justice, equity, and peace.
