Colorado Senate District 13 is based around the city of Greeley, also covering the other Weld County communities: Evans, LaSalle, Milliken, Gilcrest, Platteville, and Fort Lupton. Current Senator and former Republican turned Democrat Kevin Priola currently holds the SD-13 seat, and he is term limited.
Democrats have offered up Matt Johnston, Brighton City Councilman, to run for SD-13. Johnston advocates for drastic wealth redistribution and believes that mandated wage increases help working families more than cutting government regulations and overspending. Johnston is another socialist Democrat who will punish small and large businesses until they finally leave the State of Colorado.
On City Council, Johnston asked voters for another tax increase to fund police, rather than doing his job and cutting overspending and waste to fund critical services. Johnston never spoke against high density housing, unlike his peers on City Council. Like Governor Polis, Matt Johnston knows that the more progressive California and Illinois voters he can cram into his district, the more likely that Democrat control of local and state governments continues.
Scott Bright is a conservative civic and business leader who has been devoted to the communities of Senate District 13 for his entire life. Scott has worked in his family’s early childhood education business since 1990 and is the 3rd generation owner. With 25 licensed child-care and preschool facilities and 250 incredible employees, his company provides services to over 2,000 families in Weld County.
Scott Bright's conservative vision for a brighter future in Colorado focuses on the policies that matter to northeastern Colorado: affordability, good jobs, better education, safer communities, and conservative values.
Mr. Bright will make Colorado more affordable for families by working to reduce property taxes, defending TABOR, and cutting the cost of health insurance. Scott Bright is a staunch proponent of school choice, the Second Amendment, and freedom of speech. To ensure safer communities, Scott will work to implement Truth In Sentencing, eliminate cashless bail, and felonize fentanyl possession.
As of this writing, Scott Bright and his opponent are nearly tied for fundraising, with Scott having an advantage due to a large loan he gave himself to WIN in November. Since Senate 13 leans Republican, we should have no reason not to take it back this year. Scott's hard work, determination, and drive to regain this seat speak volumes about who he is as a person and how he will perform as a state legislator.
