WILL Urges You to Vote Tomorrow

Dear Friend,

Tomorrow, Wisconsin has an important election that has flown under the radar. Tuesday, August 13th, there are two very important constitutional amendments on the ballot that will shape state policy and how state government spends YOUR tax dollars for decades to come. If you want to learn more about these amendments, please visit our webpage where we provide important context and reasoning for a YES vote.

It is imperative Wisconsin passes both proposed amendments and the answer to both questions is YES!

Voting “YES” to both amendments simply puts the ‘power of the purse’ back where it belongs—with our legislature. Right now, there is too much power concentrated in the hands of the governor. In the case of the COVID relief funds, Governor Evers was able to appropriate $5 billion of spending.

This is not a Republican thing or a Democratic thing. It is not about Tony Evers, and it is not about Scott Walker. It is simply about what the rules should be. Because even if you love what Governor Evers did with the COVID relief money, I guarantee you—sometime in the future there will be a governor who you do not agree with, and you do not want that governor to have this type of unilateral power.

This is not a “power grab.” These amendments will require the governor and legislature to share power.

Separation of powers and checks and balances are a theme in our Constitution. The legislature makes law, subject to gubernatorial veto. The governor executes it, based on legislative authority. These amendments restore that balance.

Voting “YES” to both questions 1 and 2 will maintain the checks and balances that are so crucial to our system. It will mean more oversight and transparency.

I thank you for your time and I hope you will go to the polls and tell your family and friends. I cannot overstate the importance of passing these two amendments. Thank you for caring about Wisconsin and for the Constitution.

In liberty!
