Dear  john ,

I hope that you and your family are well and enjoying the summer.

Tropical Storm Debby has moved on, but the storm left major flooding, power outages, and wind damage in its wake. I want to express my profound gratitude to all of the first responders, linemen, and hardworking men and women across our great state whose efforts kept people out of harm’s way during the storm.

Post-Tropical Storm Updates

Parts of our state faced severe flooding and property damage from torrential rain and scattered tornadoes. Tragically, at least eight people have died due to the impacts of the storm. If you or your family require assistance in recovery and in dealing with state and federal agencies, please contact my office for help. Our team is ready and willing to assist.

There are still some Duke Energy customers in NC without power. You can check the outage map HERE.  I thoroughly endorse State Rep. Jarrod Lowery's shoutout to our hardworking linemen who worked to quickly restore power.

Reminder: hurricane season is not over yet! It runs through November 30th , so make sure to stay on alert for tropical storm formation. My website will have resources and updates on the latest storms for the remainder of the season.

Draining the Swamp

So far this month, I’ve introduced two new bills: The No Union Time on Taxpayers Dime Act and the Standing to Challenge Government Censorship Act.

I introduced the Standing to Challenge Government Censorship Act with Senator Rand Paul and Congresswoman Harriet Hageman, building on my previous and ongoing efforts to safeguard your First Amendment rights. It will prohibit federal employees and contractors from using their positions to direct online platforms to censor First Amendment protected speech.

Americans have a God-given right to free expression and speech, and the constant attacks on the First Amendment from government bureaucrats make safeguarding that right all the more important. Malicious actors within government should never be allowed to silence and censor our fellow citizens. Americans targeted by the Censorship Industrial Complex deserve their day in court to challenge these censors.

Senator Mike Lee and I introduced the No Union Time on Taxpayers Dime Act. This bill will put an end to the oxymoronic practice of “official time,” where federal employees use taxpayer-funded time to conduct organizing activities for their union, not to do the government jobs they are paid to do.

This bill is simple: federal employees who want to work for a union need to do so on their own time, not the taxpayer dime.

District Dispatch

Team Bishop was able to attend a Veterans Helping Veterans luncheon in Rowan County, where we presented a flag flown over the US Capitol to Navy Veteran Troy Horton, who was named Rowan County’s Veteran of the year in 2023.

Team Bishop also attended Gray Stone Day School’s Award Ceremony this morning and presented a Congressional Silver Medal award to Dawson Raynes, a high school senior. The Congressional Award recognizes initiative, service, and achievement in America’s youth, and is the highest honor for youth civilians.
