The data continues to contradict those saying immigration hurts U.S. jobs and the economy, reports Nicholas Dale Leal of El Pa??s [link removed].??

Immigrants create jobs through their entrepreneurship and consumption, says Giovanni Peri, an economist at the University of California and founder and director of the Global Migration Center. Many immigrants are also "scientists, engineers, and innovators who contribute to productivity growth," Peri states.??

Separately, a team at??The New York Times [link removed] how bigotry and hatred online against immigrants have led to many real-life acts of violence, including this year in the United Kingdom and Portugal.??

Following recent violence in the U.K., the British government is urging people to "think before you post." European authorities are struggling to find effective ways to respond while respecting freedoms of speech.??

One asylum seeker describes himself and others as "traumatized" by the attack on a hotel housing migrants near Rotherham, reports Aine Fox of PA Media [link removed].??

"I had a great life back in Afghanistan, I was working with humanitarian organizations and in the development sector. I was also working as a volunteer," said the young man, who fled his home country with a heavy heart after the Taliban takeover. "Now I don't go outside. I don't want to explore new places. **SEPARATIONS** - Former President Donald Trump's recent defense of his family separations policy points to the possibility of more to come should he win a second term, writes Forbes [link removed] contributor Stuart Anderson. During his presidency, Trump continually pushed for the reinstatement of the family separation policy. Anderson offers a glimpse of how Trump could try to implement similar policies in a second term. For a closer look at both major candidates' stances on immigration, check out the Forum's updated platform comparison [link removed].??

**HOSPITALS** - On Thursday, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) ordered the state's Health and Human Services Commission to monitor and report the costs associated with treating undocumented immigrants, reports Aar??n Torres of The Dallas Morning News [link removed]. Although the order states that an individual's status will not affect their care, advocates worry it will affect people's willingness to seek medical attention when they need it. ??

**COSTS** - While the economic cost of mass deportation would be extreme, the human cost would be "immeasurable," J. Kevin Appleby of the Center for Migration Studies of New York writes in the National Catholic Reporter [link removed]. Appleby also addresses potential effects in the Catholic Church: "Local parishes, which happen to attract immigrant families on Sundays and Holy Days, would be??monitored??by immigration enforcement. Mass attendance would likely fall significantly in immigrant communities." ??

**LEFT OUT** - The Biden administration's new program to smooth the legalization process for undocumented spouses of U.S. citizens could benefit more than half a million people. But it does not cover many others, reports Andrea Castillo of the Los Angeles Times [link removed] - including spouses trying to follow existing rules. "I dedicated myself to acting right. I never had any problems with the law or police,"??said Isa??as S??nchez Gonzalez, barred from returning after he left his Los Angeles home and family for a visa interview in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.??

**P.S.** Go for the butter sculptures [link removed], stay for the citizenship: 47 children from 17 different countries will become U.S. citizens today at a ceremony at the Iowa State Fair, reports Matt Kelley of Radio Iowa [link removed].????
