Today marks the 7 year anniversary of white supremacists overrunning Charlottesville, Virginia – waving Nazi and Confederate flags, repeating racist chants, and killing counter-protestor Heather Heyer.

As a veteran, it broke my heart to see the country I risked my life for overseas torn apart by hate and fear. And make no mistake, that same hate and fear are on the ballot this fall. Donald Trump, JD Vance, and MAGA are using it to gin up their base.

I could not feel more differently looking at photos from Philadelphia last week, compared to those images from Charlottesville. If the last few weeks have taught us anything, it's that there is beauty – and JOY – in a multicultural movement that brings us all together.

I know which side I'm proud to be a part of and fighting with every day.
