Happy tail end of summer to everyone! School has started, rain is falling, and temperatures are dropping (yes, 102 compared with 109 counts). Candidates who won their primary are gearing up for the next twelve weeks of work heading to the general election, and Democrats are doing this with a huge new burst of energetic determination brought on by the Harris/Walz ticket.
The VP’s rally on Friday was a joyous jumpstart to the campaign, with a sold out crowd of over 15,000 uniting in celebration in Glendale. When they say that the Harris campaign is running on joy, believe it. Democratic leaders brought messages of hope and strength as the stadium raucously cheered them on. The lineup of speakers included:
* Gila Indian River Community Governor Stephen Roe Lewis
* Our very own LD 5 Carolyn Van Horn
* Mayors Corey Woods, John Giles, and Kate Gallego
* Congressmen Greg Stanton and Ruben Gallego
* Senator Mark Kelly and Gabby Giffords (as she danced to cheers of “Gabby! Gabby! Gabby!)
When Governor Tim Walz came out, the cheering was so loud it almost drowned out John Mellencamp’s “Small Town” song, followed by VP Harris receiving what felt like a five-minute standing ovation. Governor Walz spoke about his successes and Democrats’ shared values that are rooted in working toward a common good; the concept of something bigger than ourselves; of kindness, generosity, and compassion. VP Harris very articulately laid out what we are working towards and voting on in November,
“Our campaigns are about two different visions for our nation. One, ours,* focused on the future. The other, focused on the past. And, Arizona, we fight for the future.”
As I gear up my campaign I will be partnering with other Democratic candidates to ensure we all win in November. If you would like to become part of the unstoppable army, check out ways to enlist below.

As promised throughout our campaign, we are committed to helping flip the legislature. This weekend we were out in LD 2 to help canvass for Rep Judy Schwiebert’s Senate and Stephanie Simacek’s House campaign.
I was so happy to see LD 5 friends, CD 1 Democratic candidate Amish Shah, Osborn Governing School Board member Rhiannon Ford and Nikhil Sethi. Nikhil is leaving for college soon and it’s inspiring to see him spending his last few days committed to knocking doors.
LD 5 will continue to be out there helping our purple districts!
As we gear up for the General election we want to makes sure we keep LD 5 Blue.
Your support will go toward getting out the vote to Keep Sarah, uplifting other important county and school board races, and ensuring every voter in the district is empowered to vote.
