John, a Texas-based company has developed vending machines that sell bullets — and they’ve been placed in grocery stores across Alabama, Oklahoma, and Texas.

It sounds like some kind of sick joke, but the sale of bullets from vending machines in grocery stores is just the latest example of America’s fanatical gun culture.

With these machines, you can now pick up a gallon of milk, a dozen eggs, and a box of bullets all in one trip. The company that developed these machines has insisted that their age-verification technology makes these transactions safe, but the potential for increased gun violence is disturbing to us.

We’re calling for this dangerous venture to be stopped immediately. The facts are clear: easy access to ammunition in everyday settings dramatically increases the risk of impulsive gun violence.

Every year, gun violence already claims the lives of over 40,000 Americans — it’s now the leading cause of death for children in the U.S., more common than cancer or car accidents. More access to ammunition across our communities will worsen this crisis.

It’s also just disturbing. The installation of these machines in family-friendly environments like grocery stores will increase the normalization of dangerous weapons.
