Today we want to talk about an issue that does not get enough attention in D.C. but is incredibly important for our rural communities… and that’s telehealth.
In our districts, it’s not so easy to see a doctor. Sometimes the closest hospital is five towns over, which makes it a long trek to drive. In places like Alaska, you may even have to get on a plane to find the nearest doctor.
That’s why rural telehealth is so important. In today’s day and age, we can talk to a doctor, ask all the questions we have, and receive a proper diagnosis… all over video! It dramatically cuts down wait times and allows us to get the care we need from our own homes.
Blue Dogs are proud to support the Expand Telehealth Access Act which will expand the list of providers eligible for medicare reimbursement for providing care via telehealth. This legislation is vital to making telehealth more accessible for everyday Americans, especially those of us who live in rural areas where a doctor isn’t always easy to find.
We know we can get this legislation passed through Congress, but we need more Blue Dogs who realize that telehealth is vital to giving people access to the care they need.
Blue Dogs are normal people in Congress who want to get sh*t done. We believe in freedom and we’re fighting to protect yours. We’re pro-America, pro-democracy, and working to pass fiscally responsible policies that benefit everyday, hard-working Americans.
