At the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, over 5,000 workstations were affected, though the agency’s primary systems remain operational. The Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network also experienced disruptions but resolved issues within an hour. Further impacts were reported at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and the Department of Energy’s Lawrence Berkeley National Lab. In legislative responses, House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green and Rep. Andrew Garbarino have requested CrowdStrike’s CEO to testify regarding the outage’s effects on federal operations. Additionally, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is spearheading a new initiative to integrate artificial intelligence into manufacturing to enhance resilience. NIST plans to invest up to $70 million over five years in a new institute under Manufacturing USA, aiming to advance technology development, workforce education, and shared infrastructure. " Click here to read the full article. WHAT'S NEW IN NY-02 Andrew Recognizes Local Business Last week, Navarro's Hair Salon in Lindenhurst opened its doors. Andrew is proud to support our small businesses and applauds the team at Navarro's for this accomplishment. He provided a Congressional Certificate of Recognition and his congratulations during the Grand Opening. Andrew Welcomes Graduating Class Of Service Dogs Canine Companions recently held its Summer Graduation Ceremony, at which 12 individuals were placed with a Canine Companions assistance dog. Canine Companions is a non-profit with a branch on Long Island that provides highly trained service dogs and ongoing support to adults, children, and veterans with disabilities at no cost to the recipients. Andrew applauds Canine Companions for its mission and its work supporting our veterans and others who need it. CASEWORK HIGHLIGHT: Helping A Local Non-Profit A Bayshore resident had been trying to register her non-profit for over a year without success so she contacted Andrew's office for assistance. She filed with New York State and paid to register. She also sent her filing receipt to the IRS to obtain an EIN number. Andrew's casework team was able to secure the EIN number for her non-profit and advised her on next steps. Andrew knows how frustrating dealing with bureaucracy can be. That is why he has an entire team dedicated to helping constituents get what they need from the government. KEEPING UP WITH CONGRESS Andrew Fights For Justice For 9/11 Families This week, Andrew helped introduce the Justice for 9/11 Act which would prevent plea deals for Khalid Sheikh Mohammad and his fellow 9/11 co-conspirators in the wake of a revoked plea deal by the Biden-Harris Administration. Although the original plea deal was revoked, it never should have been offered in the first place. The legislation would prevent anything like that from happening again and guarantee that the death penalty remains on the table at any future trial. Like many Americans, Andrew was outraged when reports broke about the initial plea deal. This bill would ensure that 9/11 terrorists are not offered anything but the justice they are due for their evil actions against this country. Thanks for reading!
