I am writing to you today with a heavy heart. On Tuesday, AIPAC megadonors succeeded in buying this seat.
The same forces who targeted Jamaal Bowman for his unwavering commitment to human rights poured $15 million into my opponent’s campaign. It’s obvious that right-wing megadonors fear unbought, unbossed, democratically elected Black candidates like Jamaal and myself. They are threatened by our fight for racial and economic justice, Medicare for All, climate action, and a permanent ceasefire in Gaza. They don’t like the real, progressive changes we bring to the communities we love.
Jamaal’s defeat and my own are stark reminders of the immense power of far-right super PACs like AIPAC and their billionaire backers.
But let me make one thing clear: they may have taken away my position as Congresswoman, but they just pulled the strings off. We've faced challenges before, and we've always risen stronger, more united, and more determined. Our fight for justice, equity, and dignity for all does not end here. We are still here, and we are still standing. Y’all, this is a movement, not a moment.
And I promise, I will stop at nothing to make sure these GOP megadonors don’t oust another one of my progressive colleagues. I am determined to continue doing my all to reject their extremist agenda and efforts.
Our fight for justice and freedom continues, and I am more determined than ever to make a difference. One of the causes closest to my heart is justice for Mike Brown.
His family — my dear friends — deserve justice. They deserve a country rooted in true racial, social, economic, and environmental justice. They deserve us pursuing the policies that would have kept their son alive.
As someone who was on the front lines with the Brown family during the national movement, I witnessed the pain and struggle of our community firsthand. For over 400 days, I stood with Michael Brown Jr.'s family and took their fight to Congress, demanding systemic change. It's clearly up to us to bring justice for Mike Brown—and end police brutality. We must continue our work by supporting the Michael Brown Sr. Chosen For Change Organization, a group dedicated to justice, advocacy, and systemic change.
