Hi! I’m Tara, Tim Kaine’s Virginia Finance Director.
This is me with my cats, Ada (named after computer science pioneer Ada Lovelace) and Nikola (named after inventor and engineer Nikola Tesla).
Contrary to what JD Vance thinks, I’m actually not miserable! Nor do I think I deserve less of a voice in our democracy than any other American — unlike Vance.
(Seriously — JD Vance has said in multiple recently resurfaced interviews that he thinks the Democratic Party is being run by “miserable childless cat ladies” and that people without kids have less of a stake in our country and should have less of a voice. Oh, and he thinks we should pay more taxes. Like, what?)
At first glance, those comments are so absurd that they’re funny.
But the thing is, he’s not joking.
And when someone who’s in the running to be our nation’s next Vice President says stuff like this, we have to listen to what he’s really saying. Here’s my best attempt at a translation:
Women have to be married and have kids to be happy and functioning members of our society. We should define who gets to vote based on their parental status. Cats are bad (??!!).
Meanwhile, he’s also trying to take control of how people become parents in the first place, with positions that threaten to limit both IVF and birth control, not to mention other reproductive care.

I’m all in to stop JD Vance from becoming our next Vice President, and I’m so proud that our team here in Virginia is building a massive voter outreach program to mobilize Democrats in every corner of the Commonwealth.
