Dear friend,

Today, more than one million people in the United States are living with a primary brain tumor. Another 94,000 more will likely be diagnosed in 2024, in addition to hundreds of thousands of Americans diagnosed with metastatic brain cancer.

While there have been major improvements in treatment for other forms of cancer in the past several years, incidence and survival rates for brain tumors have remained stagnant for decades. We can and must do more to help advance efforts to defeat brain cancer.

That’s why I was proud to lead the introduction of the Bolstering Research and Innovation Now (BRAIN) Act alongside my colleagues Senator Richard Blumenthal and Congresswoman Susan Wild. This bipartisan legislation will strengthen research and treatment development for brain tumors and improve the accessibility of brain tumor health care.

Passing the BRAIN Act would be a tremendous step forward in combating this viscous disease. In addition to providing much needed resources to the National Cancer Institute to support its work to vet new treatments, the bill would also direct the CDC to conduct a public education campaign around the importance of clinical trials and biomarker testing in cancer treatment, as well as direct the FDA to issue guidance that would allow brain cancer patients access to clinical trials evaluating treatments for other diseases.

Together, we have the power to make a difference in the fight against brain cancer. This is not just a matter of policy — it's about saving lives, offering hope, and ensuring that no family has to face this battle alone. I am committed to working tirelessly with my colleagues in Congress to pass the BRAIN Act and to advocate for the continued support and innovation needed to overcome this devastating disease.
