Happy August, and welcome to DNC Convention Month! A lot has changed in the past few weeks, and we want to thank President Joe Biden for his leadership and service to this country and our Party. The stunning example of courage and patriotism he showed in making this difficult decision and endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris is perfectly in line with the grace and boldness he has lended to his public service for decades. We look forward to working with President Biden to continue delivering for Colorado through the end of his term!
The Colorado Democratic Party and the 2024 Democratic Delegation of Colorado is proud to endorse Kamala Harris for President of the United States of America, with the State Central Committee and the Colorado DNC delegation voting to endorse her with 95% of our members in support. State Parties were also the first organizations to collectively endorse Vice President Kamala Harris, with CDP Chair Shad Murib voting in support on behalf of our state at the Association of State Democratic Committees. We’re building an incredibly special campaign that y’all are going to be proud of! Get ready to have some fun this fall.

DEMZEST
Are you ready for a summer road trip? On September 14, the Colorado Democratic Party will be hosting the inaugural DemZest in Pueblo, Colorado! Happening one month before ballots go out, this event will be a celebration of our local candidates, elected officials, unions and advocacy groups, and the Colorado Democratic Party's GOTV efforts.
Following the fun and success of DemFest in Denver and DemWest in Palisade, the Colorado Democratic Party is taking the show on the road and bringing the Party to Pueblo. (PS: Check out the photo gallery from DemFest and Gala HERE)
Our goal is to compete and win everywhere - and Pueblo is one of the key areas we must show up for, compete in, and ultimately win in November. When: September 14th, 2024 | 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Colorado County Comeback: The Colorado Democratic Party is proud to launch the Colorado County Comeback, a strategic initiative designed to take the fight to elect community-minded folks to battleground county-level district seats.
This project will prioritize targeted investments into counties and candidates, comprehensive campaign planning, rigorous training, and robust staff support for dynamic campaigns led by both incumbents and challengers. The CDP is providing county commissioner races with the same support we’ve provided for state legislature seats.
The following counties received $30,000 worth of grants to kickstart their campaigns:
Chaffee, Huerfano, Pueblo, Alamosa, Douglas, El Paso, Garfield, Grand, Mesa, Ouray, Routt, Park
Colorado Green Wave:
We’ve brought on this year’s Murphy Roberts Rising Star Award winner, Harrison Wendt, to lead the Colorado Green Wave, a program funded with a $100,000 State Party Innovation Fund grant to hire organizers on college campuses with a focus on rural areas. These organizers will share the Democratic Party’s commitment to fighting climate change and protecting public lands with college students.
We’re actively hiring organizers: apply HERE or send the job description to someone who would be a great fit! The Challengers:
Candidates running in tough-to-win districts often get less support than battleground districts, and that’s something we’re aiming to fix with our Challengers program.
The Colorado Democratic Party has adopted candidates running to flip red districts running in tough-to-win districts, providing them weekly support calls to hit their financial and field goals, staff assistance on fundraising and political initiatives, and we’ve also provided a how-to-run-for-office manual that can kick start competitive campaigns. These races too often go ignored, and we’re excited to be providing these talented and hardworking candidates with full support from our Party.

We had an amazing canvass on July 21st, joined by four esteemed elected officials, Congressman Jason Crow, Attorney General Phil Weiser, Senator Michael Bennet, and Colorado Democratic Party Chair Shad Murib! We had an amazing turnout and over 100 conversations! |
One voter told our volunteers that she was not going to vote previously, but now, it’s “game on!”
Another voter shared that she is worried about what would happen with her friend living in Ukraine with a potential Trump presidency.
These are just two of the stories that demonstrate how essential the conversations we have with voters are.

Washington, D.C. — Colorado U.S. Senators Michael Bennet and John Hickenlooper joined Colorado U.S. Representative Jason Crow to urge the Veterans Affairs Rocky Mountain Network (VISN 19) to urgently address issues affecting veteran patient care within the Veterans Affairs Eastern Colorado Health Care System (VA ECHCS) network and Rocky Mountain Regional VA (RMR VA) Medical Center.

Reps. Crow, DeGette, Neguse, Pettersen, and Caraveo Introduce Resolution to Designate July 20 as National Heroes Day Marking 12 Years Since the Aurora Theater Shooting July 18, 2024
Washington — Today, Congressman Jason Crow (CO-06), member of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, alongside Colorado Representatives Diana DeGette (CO-01), Joe Neguse (CO-02), Brittany Pettersen (CO-07), and Yadira Caraveo (CO-08), reintroduced a resolution to designate July 20 as "National Heroes Day.” The day honors first responders and medical teams for their heroism on July 20, 2012 when a gunman opened fire at the Century 16 movie theater in Aurora, CO – killing twelve, wounding 70, and leaving hundreds emotionally traumatized.

Assistant Leader Neguse Announces Over $10 Million for Transit Improvements in Eagle County, Loveland, and Fort Collins July 17, 2024
Lafayette, CO — Today, House Assistant Minority Leader Joe Neguse announced a total of $10,951,557 in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) for communities in Colorado’s 2nd Congressional District to improve public transit. Funding, which was allocated to Eagle County and the cities of Fort Collins and Loveland by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), come from programs meant to support the developments of new transit systems and improve, maintain, and operate existing systems nationwide.

DeGette Celebrates $328 Million Grant To Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions in Denver July 22, 2024
Denver, CO — Today, Congresswoman Diana DeGette (CO-01) released the following statement after the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced two awards to Denver localities as part of the Climate Pollution Reduction Grant Program. This included $199 million to the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG) and $129 million to the Colorado Energy Office for their Colorado decarbonization accelerator.

NEW ELECTION PROTECTION LAWS BY COLORADO DEMOCRATS GO INTO EFFECT July 1, 2024 DENVER, CO - On July 1, 2024, legislation will go into effect to protect Colorado’s elections by punishing future attempts at “fake elector” schemes and adding protections against deepfake media that falsely depicts political candidates.

NEW LAWS GO INTO EFFECT TO MAKE COLLEGE FREE FOR FIRST TWO YEARS, BOLSTER COLORADO’S WORKFORCE BY CONNECTING APPRENTICESHIPS WITH EDUCATION SYSTEM July 29, 2024
DENVER, CO - On August 7, a bipartisan law goes into effect to save students money on higher education. HB24-1340, the Colorado Promise Act, creates a refundable income tax credit to cover the cost of two years of higher education for every family making under $90,000. SB24-104 will seamlessly connect apprenticeship programs with the Colorado Community College System (CCCS) and high school and career technical education (CTE) programs.

Laws to Extend Federal Indian Boarding School Research Program, Uncover and Define Systemic Racial Inequities in Colorado Go Into Effect July 29, 2024
DENVER, CO – On August 7, two new laws will go into effect. HB24-1444 will implement History Colorado recommendations to support healing generational trauma in tribal communities, capture oral histories and dive deeper into long-standing inequities faced by tribal communities. SB24-053 will examine racial disparities and the impact of systemic racism on Black Coloradans. Read more here. |
